About
Meet Shannon
I am Shannon Houchin, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS), and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor (CIEC) with 28 years of clinical experience.
My path to becoming a dietitian wasn't straightforward. Like many of my clients, I spent years searching for the perfect diet, not knowing that what I was really searching for was peace. My own experience with disordered eating as a teenager is what drives my passion for this work and my commitment to a completely different approach.
My practice is weight inclusive and gender inclusive. I believe that all bodies are inherently worthy and valuable, exactly as they are. I work with people of all sizes, genders, and backgrounds, and I'm deeply committed to creating a safe, affirming space for LGBTQ+ individuals and families.
I work with adolescents, adults, and families across all stages of recovery. I've worked across different levels of care throughout my career, giving me a comprehensive understanding of eating disorder treatment, disordered eating, intuitive eating, and the unique needs of those navigating GLP-1 medications and midlife hormonal changes, including menopause.
True healing extends beyond the plate. My approach honors the intersection of body, mind, and soul - integrating evidence-based nutrition therapy, mindful practices, and nervous system awareness. This isn't about gaining more control or finding more willpower. It's about rebuilding self-trust, reconnecting with your body's wisdom, and learning to approach yourself with compassion instead of criticism.
My Philosophy
Body, Mind & Soul
Diet Culture Stops Here
If you're exhausted by the endless cycle of diets, food rules, and feeling like you're constantly failing—I want you to know this is not your fault.
The diet industry is a $90B business built on keeping you feeling like you're not enough. Diet culture has sold us the lie that we need to control, restrict, and fight our bodies—and it profits every time we believe it.
Research shows that more than 95% of people fail at diets, and of those, 83% regain more weight than they lost.
This is not a willpower problem. It's a diet culture problem. Diet culture convinces us that our bodies are the problem, and that fixing our bodies will fix all our problems. You don't need another diet. You need a completely different approach.
All Bodies Are Worthy
I practice from a fierce commitment to weight-inclusivity and gender-inclusivity, grounded in Health at Every Size (HAES) principles.
All bodies—regardless of size, shape, gender identity, or background—are inherently worthy and deserving of compassionate care.
Bodies naturally come in different shapes, sizes, and forms, and they naturally change throughout life - through puberty, pregnancy, illness, medication, menopause, and aging. These changes are normal, expected, and part of being human. Yet diet culture teaches us that your body is the problem, and that fixing your body will fix all your problems. This is a lie designed to keep you spending money and feeling inadequate. Your body is not a problem to be solved. It's your partner in healing.
Beyond the Plate: Healing the Whole Person
True health isn't just about following food rules. It's about the relationship you have with food and with yourself. My holistic approach integrates body, mind, and soul:
Body
Evidence-based nutrition therapy that honors your body's wisdom
Mind
Mindfulness practices and understanding the emotional patterns driving your food choices
Soul
Reconnecting with your authentic self and what feels true for you, beyond what diet culture says you should be
Your Path to Freedom
This work isn't about gaining more control over food—it's about rebuilding trust. Trust with your body. Trust with food. Trust with yourself.
Together, we'll break down the toxic beliefs keeping you stuck, learn to listen to your body's natural signals, and approach yourself with compassion instead of judgment. True transformation happens when we address the whole person.
You deserve to enjoy food. You deserve to feel at home in your body. You deserve support that doesn't come with shame.
